Existe en este departamento un vacío en el conteo de muertes infantiles: ni la fecha de nacimiento ni la de fallecimiento quedan consignadas ante las autoridades. Esto ocurre porque no todas las comunidades están geolocalizadas, y por falta de vías. A pesar del subregistro, que se estima es de un 70 %, las cifras oficiales indican que en 2022, solo por causas relacionadas con desnutrición, el número de muertes fue el más alto de los últimos años.
