Transcurría el año 2005 y Juan Diego Gómez Jiménez era diputado de la Asamblea de  Antioquia. Faltaban cuatro meses para que cumpliera 30 años cuando decidió comprar un predio en la vereda El Noral, una zona de fincas de recreo en el municipio de Copacabana, Antioquia, 40 kilómetros al norte de Medellín. 

En la compra del predio, de 2,3 hectáreas, que colinda con la quebrada Carboneros, participaron seis personas más, cinco naturales y una jurídica. Tres de los socios de Gómez Jiménez en esta transacción terminaron vinculados al narcotráfico y en escándalos de corrupción.
