A pesar de que varios de los derechos laborales de los que hoy gozamos los colombianos han sido posibles gracias a los sindicatos, y de que estas organizaciones son muy importantes para fortalecer la democracia, todavía hay muchas personas que tienen prejuicios sobre la lucha sindical y que estigmatizan a sus líderes. Tal vez por eso, Colombia es el país más peligroso del mundo para ser sindicalista (en los últimos 50 años han asesinado a más de 3.200) y tenemos uno de los grados más bajos de sindicalización: solo el 4,6% de los empleados.
